Effective Antibiotic for Bacterial Eye Infections

Gentamicin Eye Drops 0.3% is a topical antibiotic ophthalmic solution used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections of the eye. It contains gentamicin sulfate, an aminoglycoside antibiotic that works by stopping the growth of bacteria, providing rapid relief from symptoms like redness, discharge, pain, and swelling.

Composition (per mL):

• Gentamicin Sulfate equivalent to Gentamicin 3 mg (0.3%)

• Sterile isotonic solution suitable for ophthalmic use

 

Dosage & Administration:

• Instill 1–2 drops into the affected eye(s) every 4 to 6 hours

• In severe infections, dosage may be increased to every 2 hours initially

• Use treatment for 7–10 days, or as prescribed

• Wash hands before and after use

• Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye or any surface

 

Precautions:

• For external use in the eyes only

• Prolonged use may lead to secondary fungal infections

• Not suitable for viral or fungal eye infections

• Use with caution in individuals allergic to aminoglycosides

• Consult a doctor before using during pregnancy or breastfeeding

 

Possible Side Effects:

• Temporary burning or stinging after application

• Redness or eye irritation

• Rare: allergic reactions or eyelid swelling

• Prolonged or inappropriate use may result in antibiotic resistance

 

Storage:

• Store at 15–25°C (room temperature)

• Protect from light and moisture

• Do not freeze

• Discard 4 weeks after opening
