Oral Penicillin Antibiotic for Bacterial Infections

Flucloxacillin Suspension is a penicillin-class antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It is especially effective against Gram-positive bacteria, including those that produce beta-lactamase (penicillinase), such as Staphylococcus aureus.

It is commonly prescribed for children due to its oral liquid form and suitable dosing.

Composition:

Each 5ml contains:

• Flucloxacillin Sodium equivalent to 125mg Flucloxacillin

 

Pharmacological Class:

• Beta-lactam Antibiotic

• Penicillinase-resistant Penicillin

 

Pediatric Use:

• Formulated especially for children and infants

• Dosing is based on body weight and age

• Easy-to-administer oral suspension with pleasant flavor

 

Dosage (General Guide for Children):

Children (2–10 years):

• 125–250 mg (5–10 ml) four times daily

Children (under 2 years):

• 62.5–125 mg (2.5–5 ml) four times daily

Administration Tips:

• Best taken on an empty stomach, 30–60 minutes before meals

• Shake bottle well before use

• Complete the full course even if symptoms improve early

 

Precautions & Warnings:

• Do not use in patients with penicillin allergy

• Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment

• Monitor for signs of allergic reactions, such as rash or breathing difficulty

• Prolonged use may lead to superinfection (e.g., candidiasis)

 

Common Side Effects:

• Mild gastrointestinal discomfort (nausea, diarrhea)

• Rash or skin irritation

• Rare: liver function disturbances, jaundice

• Very rare: anaphylaxis (seek emergency help immediately)

 

Storage:

• Store in a refrigerator at 2°C–8°C once reconstituted

• Discard any unused suspension after 7 days

• Keep out of reach of children
