Broad-Spectrum Antibiotic for Pediatric Bacterial Infections

Cefuroxime Suspension is an oral second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic formulated for children. It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections by stopping the growth of harmful bacteria. The suspension is commonly prescribed for respiratory tract infections, ear infections, urinary tract infections, and certain skin conditions in children.

Composition (per 5 ml after reconstitution):

• Cefuroxime (as Cefuroxime Axetil) – 125 mg

• Flavored, child-friendly base to enhance palatability

• Supplied as a dry powder for reconstitution with water

Dosage & Administration:

• Dosage depends on child’s weight, age, and type of infection

• Usual dose: 20–30 mg/kg/day divided into two doses

• Shake well before each use

• Administer after food to enhance absorption

• Complete the full course as prescribed, even if symptoms improve

Precautions:

• For oral use only

• Not effective against viral infections like the flu or common cold

• Use with caution in children with kidney problems or cephalosporin allergy

• Inform the doctor of any other medications the child is taking

Possible Side Effects:

• Diarrhea, nausea, or abdominal pain

• Rash or mild allergic reaction

• Rare: severe allergic reaction (seek immediate help)

• Changes in blood counts (only with prolonged use—monitor if long-term

Storage Instructions:

• Store the dry powder at room temperature

• After reconstitution, keep the suspension refrigerated (2–8°C)

• Use within 7–10 days after mixing

• Discard any unused portion after the expiration period
