Novafen 200 – Ibuprofen 200 mg Film-Coated Tablets

Novafen 200 is a non-prescription (OTC) medication that contains 200 mg of ibuprofen, a widely used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is primarily used to reduce pain, inflammation, and fever in various conditions. Its effectiveness and relatively low risk when used correctly make it a common choice for both occasional and short-term pain relief.

Active Ingredient:

• Ibuprofen 200 mg (per tablet)

Ibuprofen works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), which are responsible for producing prostaglandins—chemical messengers that trigger inflammation, pain, and fever.

Dosage and Administration:

For adults and children aged 12 and over:

• Take 1 tablet (200 mg) every 4–6 hours as needed.

• If the pain or fever is more intense, 2 tablets (400 mg) may be taken.

• Do not exceed 6 tablets (1200 mg) in 24 hours unless directed by a physician.

• Tablets should be swallowed whole with water, preferably with or after food to minimize gastric irritation.

 

Contraindications:

Do not use Novafen 200 if you:

• Are allergic to ibuprofen, aspirin, or other NSAIDs.

• Have a history of peptic ulcers, GI bleeding, or perforation.

• Have severe heart, liver, or kidney disease.

• Are in the third trimester of pregnancy (after 24 weeks).

• Have asthma, urticaria, or nasal polyps triggered by NSAIDs.

 

Warnings and Precautions:

Use with caution in:

• Elderly patients, as they are more prone to gastrointestinal complications.

• Individuals with a history of GI issues, hypertension, heart failure, or kidney disease.

• People on blood thinners (e.g., warfarin), diuretics, or corticosteroids.

Do not use with alcohol or other NSAIDs to avoid increased risk of stomach bleeding.

Possible Side Effects:

Most people tolerate ibuprofen well, but side effects may include:

Common:

• Nausea

• Indigestion

• Stomach pain

• Headache

• Dizziness

Less Common:

• Diarrhea or constipation

• Rash or itching

• Fluid retention

Rare but Serious:

• Gastrointestinal bleeding or ulceration

• Kidney or liver function changes

• Severe allergic reactions (swelling, anaphylaxis)
