Metoclopramide is a prokinetic and antiemetic medication used to treat various gastrointestinal conditions related to nausea, vomiting, and delayed gastric emptying. Each tablet contains 10 mg of metoclopramide hydrochloride, the active ingredient.
Mechanism of Action:
Metoclopramide works by:
-
Blocking dopamine (D2) receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) in the brain, thereby preventing nausea and vomiting.
-
Enhancing the motility of the upper gastrointestinal tract without affecting gastric, biliary, or pancreatic secretions.
-
Accelerating gastric emptying and increasing the tone of the lower esophageal sphincter, helping to reduce gastroesophageal reflux.
