Viscof-S Syrup

Viscof-S Syrup is a combination cough syrup commonly used to relieve symptoms of productive (wet) cough, chest congestion, and irritation of the respiratory tract. It typically contains a blend of expectorants, mucolytics, antitussives, and/or antihistamines, depending on the formulation provided by the manufacturer.

Viscof-S often includes the following active ingredients:

• Ambroxol Hydrochloride – A mucolytic agent that breaks down and thins mucus in the airways, making it easier to cough up

• Guaifenesin – An expectorant that loosens phlegm and increases mucus clearance from the lungs

• Terbutaline Sulfate – A bronchodilator that relaxes the muscles of the airways, helping to relieve coughing and shortness of breath

• Menthol – Provides a soothing and cooling effect on the throat and airways

• Sometimes includes: Phenylephrine (decongestant) or Chlorpheniramine (antihistamine) depending on symptoms

Dosage and Administration:

Adults:

• Usually 5–10 mL, 2–3 times daily after meals or as prescribed

Children (6–12 years):

• Typically 2.5–5 mL, 2–3 times daily

Children under 6:

 Shake well before use. Always use the measuring cup provided.

Contraindications:

• Known allergy to any of the ingredients

• Severe heart disease, hyperthyroidism, or hypertension (if it contains bronchodilators like terbutaline)

• Use with caution in diabetic patients (some formulations contain sugar)

 

Precautions:

• Avoid use with other cough/cold medications unless advised by a doctor

• Not recommended for persistent or chronic cough due to smoking, asthma, or emphysema unless prescribed

• Consult a doctor before use if pregnant, breastfeeding, or having underlying conditions like heart disease or diabetes
